The Algorithm • Man with digital device wrapped around back of head

Series concept based on the short film ‘Doppelbänger’. Created by Sofian Khan, Writers: Gibson Frazier & Mark Shanahan. Produced by Roy Wol.

George and Pria live in a world that has undergone radical change in the past few decades. Nearly all jobs have been assumed by Doppelsynths – high-functioning androids assigned to each citizen. In return for maintaining their robotic doubles (Doppels), which go to work for them, the human owners (Primes) receive a steady salary. This leaves them time to pursue lives of leisure, which, in this increasingly isolated society encapsulated in its technological comforts, means a life lived in virtual reality.

But some people are different. George, an artist, still wanders the real world in search of inspiration to create art instead of merely consume entertainment. And Pria, a cognitive systems engineer, maintains one of the few high-level jobs reserved for human beings, though each day their ranks grow smaller.

Season One is structured as eight 1-hour episodes. Combining elements of mystery, thriller and comedy, the pilot episode jumps right into the action. Following the disappearance of Pria’s twin sister, Suna, she and George start to dig and quickly find themselves in over their heads. As the plot thickens, more is revealed about this strange future world of doubles, where nothing is as it seems.
